SAPOL Police Check
The South Australian Police recently made a number of changes to the process for applying for free police checks. To help with some teething problems encountered along the way, they have produced a special ‘frequently asked questions (FAQ) fact sheet, highlighting the new initiatives and how they will impact volunteers and volunteer organisations. Some of the changes include:
Applicants will now be encouraged to fill out an online form by visiting the SA Police website at www.police.sa.gov.au , printing off the form, and then lodging it at their local police station. For people who do not have access to the internet, application
forms can still be collected by visiting any police station.
While police stations will still provide a photo copying service, a speedier service can be expected if applicants are able to present a photocopy of their ID documents when applying for the National Police Check certificate.
Finally, certificates will now only be released to the applicant. There will no longer be an option to nominate a third party to receive the certificate on a person’s behalf. This new system will give applicants the opportunity to review the information for accuracy and also provide a greater level of protection to an individual's privacy.
