The Passing of a Friend

Haydn Bellamy, Tuesday, 9 February 2010

Gymnastics SA wishes to inform the gymnastics community that Barry Wilden sadly passed away on the 8th February 2010.

Barry was a Life Member of Gymnastics South Australia and was an influential and much respected member of the Trampoline Community in SA.

Barry started by coaching Coomandook back in the early 60’s, and from there became a member of the Blackwood Trampolining Club Committee when his son started at the club. He took this commitment to the next level becoming a member of the Blackwood Recreation Centre Building Committee, advocating for upgraded facilities especially raised ceilings leading to the new facilities at Blackwood High School.

Throughout this time Barry also became a Judge to aid the sport both within our State and Interstate. Whilst he was committed to help Trampolining in these roles, he also became Assistant State Team Manager and then State Team Manager. He took this commitment still further by becoming the President for S.A. Trampolining Sports (Australian Trampolining Association South Australia) a position that he held for Four (4) years.

Barry kept his commitment to the sport after he left the committee, always providing logistic support as well as still judging or acting as an official at not only within the State but at National and Interstate Competitions.

Our thoughts and prayers are extended to Helen Wilden and her family at this very sad time.
