Men's Artistic Gymnastics Activities

Rings

Ring routines should include a variety of swinging and strength movements including holds in handstands for the higher levels. The rings are often noted for their spectacular dismounts.

Floor Exercise

The gymnast's Floor Exercise should include movements which demonstrate strength, flexibility and balance. Each routine must combine movements such as somersaults, twists and leaps. The total floor area should be used and the routines should have a personal touch and execution.

Pommel Horse

The Pommel Horse routine should be a continuous chain of circular and pendulum type swings, double leg circles, scissor movements and undercuts using all parts of the horse. The exercises performed on this apparatus are characterised by movements of the body, which must be performed without a break.

Vault

The vault is proceeded by a running approach of about twenty metres. Each Vault has a value according to its difficulty. The vault should demonstrate clean movements with height and length, finishing in a controlled landing.

Parallel Bars

Like the rings the Parallel Bars require a combination of swinging movements with strength or hold parts. The gymnast must travel along and work above and below the bars

Horizontal Bar

The gymnast must perform clean swinging movements without any stops and must not touch the bar with his body. He is required to demonstrate changes of grip, swinging movements, both forward and backwards, plus releases and re-grasps of the bar. Dismounts are an important part of the total routine and are usually spectacular.
